এখানে আমরা পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সিভিল সার্ভিস মেইনস পরীক্ষার সিলেবাস সম্বন্ধে আলোচনা করব. WBCS প্রিলিমিনারি পরীক্ষায় পাশ করার পর মেইন পরীক্ষাতে বসতে হয়.
যারা যারা প্রিলিমিনারি পরীক্ষায় কাট অফ এর বেশি নাম্বার পাবেন তারাই শুধুমাত্র Mains পরীক্ষায় বসতে পারবেন.

WBCS মেইন পরীক্ষার প্রশ্নপত্রের প্যাটার্ন
ডব্লিউ বি সি এস মেন পরীক্ষায় মোট আটটি পেপার থাকে. এর মধ্যে 6 টি পেপার কম্পালসারি এবং 2 টি ঐচ্ছিক বিষয়ের পেপার থাকে. প্রার্থীদের যে কোনো একটি ঐচ্ছিক বিষয়কে চয়ন করতে হয় এবং ওই একটি বিষয়ের উপরই দুটি পেপার থাকে.
প্রত্যেকটি পেপার এর মান 200 নম্বর হয়ে থাকে.
সর্বমোট 1600 নম্বরের পরীক্ষা হয় গ্রুপ A এবং গ্রুপ B এর জন্য.
গ্রুপ C এবং গ্রুপ D এর জন্য ঐচ্ছিক বিষয় থাকে না. তাই গ্রুপ সি ও গ্রুপ ডি এর জন্য মেন পরীক্ষা সর্বমোট 1400 নম্বরের হয়ে থাকে.

Paper I Syllabus:
- Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali – Letter writing (within 150 words),
- Drafting of Report (within 200 words),
- Précis Writing,
- Composition and Translation from English to Bengali / Hindi / Urdu / Nepali / Santali
Paper II Syllabus:
- English – Letter writing (within 150 words) / Drafting of Report (within 200 words),
- Précis Writing,
- Composition and Translation from Bengali / Hindi / Urdu / Nepali / Santali to English
Paper III Syllabus:
General Studies-I : (i) Indian History with special emphasis on National Movement and (ii) Geography of India with special reference to West Bengal.
Paper IV Syllabus:
General Studies-II : Science and Scientific & Technological advancement, Environment, General Knowledge and Current Affairs.
Environment Syllabus will consist of the following topics:
- Bio diversity and Coastal Regulation Zone,
- Global Warming,
- Industrial and Environmental Pollution,
- Ozone Layer and related issues
Paper V Syllabus:
The Constitution of India and Indian Economy including role and functions of the Reserve Bank of India.
Indian Economy including role and functions of the Reserve Bank of India Syllabus will be of following topics:
- Central State relation and devolution of central funds to state,
- Planning process and objectives of five years plan,
- Functions of RBI and Monetary policy,
- Central Finance Commission & State Finance Commission
- Fiscal Policy of Government of India.
Paper VI Syllabus:
Reasoning questions will be asked from following topics:
- Analytical Reasoning: Data Sufficiency,
- Logical Reasoning: Logical Deduction, Forcefulness of the Arguments, Implication of sentences, Inferring from diagrams,
- Series: Letter series, Number series,
- Inferring from Data,
- Analogy tests,
- Symbol Interpretation,
- Mathematical puzzles,
- Odd man out,
- Perception test,
- Non-verbal reasoning &
- Selecting the correct sequence.
Arithmetic Questions will be similar to that of the Compulsory Mathematics paper at the Madhyamik Examination.
