WBCS Eligibility Criteria 2023

The West Bengal Civil Service Examination outlines several important parameters which are called WBCS eligibility criteria. The criteria consists of several requirements pertaining to candidates’ age, educational requirement, special conditions such as height / weight etc.

What is the Eligibility Criteria for appearing in WBCS Exam?

The WBCS eligibility criteria can be divided in 4 parts which are – i) Age Criteria, ii) Educational Qualification, iii) Physical Criteria, iv) Language criteria. The Notification Advertisement of W.B.C.S as released by the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) on its official website www.wbpsc.gov.in states all the eligibility requirements for applying to WBCS. 1. Age Criteria for WBCS:

While discussing the Age Limit for WBCS, we will categorize the discussion in roughly 3 parts which are –

  1. Lower Age Limit,
  2. Upper Age Limit &
  3. Relaxation in upper age for reserved category candidates.

Note that the Age limit for WBCS 2023 will be calculated as on 1st January 2023.

Lower Age Limit:

One must attain a certain age for applying to various Group A, B, C & D posts under WBCS. The group wise minimum age limit for WBCS 2023 is as per the table given below:

Upper Age Limit:

WBCS examination guidelines laid by the WBPSC authority also tells us that one candidate must not have crossed a certain age before applying to the exam. This upper age limit or maximum age criteria for WBCS depends on the group of posts and the category of candidates as well.

For unreserved category candidates, the Upper Age Limit for being eligible for WBCS Exam is as per the table given below:

2. Educational Qualification Related Criteria:

Candidates should have minimum qualification requirements for being eligible for WBCS. The minimum educational criteria is a Bachelors Degree in any stream.

It means any full time degree course such as BA, BSc, BCom, BTech, BE, BBA, BCA, B.Pharmacy, MBBS, BDS, B.Sc Nursing etc, done from a recognized university will be minimum requirement for appearing in WBCS.

Candidates who possess Distance Bachelors Degree, are also eligible for WBCS.

One must attain the Degree within last date of filling up application form.

3. Physical Standard Requirements Criteria

If you are aiming at WBCS Group B i.e the West Bengal Police Service, then you must also fulfil the physical criteria requirements prescribed by the authority. The Physical standards should be following:

Gorkhas, Garwalis, Assamese Tribals etc Male / Female candidates will get relaxation in height as per govt rule.

This criteria only applies to WBPS Posts.

4. Language Criteria

The candidates should have the ability to read, write and speak in Bengali Language. Candidates’ whose mother-tongue is Nepali, need not fulfil this criteria.

  1. why Nipali speaking people, don’t have to know the Bengali language and people speaking other language rather than Bengali and Nipali have to know Bengali language compulsory?
